Goga! September 27th

Joining us in September is the multi-talented artist Goga. With heavy influences from the likes of Marvin Gaye, Carlos Santana and Buddy Guy, Goga is a unique and skilled artist who draws from his influences a powerful mixture of R&B, Latin and soulful jazz.

Goga performs hits ranging from Carlos Santana to Andrea Bochelli in, amazingly, twelve different languages! Goga also has original music from his forthcoming CD Color of My Love. Put this together with his ability to play guitar and piano and you have a musical event you cannot miss!

Come out to the Plaza on Saturday, September 27th for this fantastic show.

Jorge's Update

You can cut it with a knife, the suspense I mean. Jorge’s is planning on officially opening on Aug. 26. They will open for breakfast only on the 26th, then breakfast and lunch until Labor Day. After Labor Day they will be fully open: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Good things come to those who...yeah, yeah..I'm really craving some Tex-Mex!

Tei An Now Open!

Yes, it's true Tei An is finally open for business. I promise you it was worth the wait. You can't get this kind of food just anywhere in America, much less in the heart of Texas.

The sobalier, the soba noodle chef, is a time-honored craftsman (like the sushi chef but with noodles).

The story of the soba noodle is actually very fascinating. Soba noodle tradition originated during the Edo period of Japan where inhabitants were more susceptible to beri beri because of eating large amounts of white rice which is low in thiamine. Thus eating thiamine-rich buckwheat noodles became a way to combat this deficiency. 1

Cooling Down Update

Well, we've done some tweaks to the August calendar. By moving some shows from the 7-9 slot to the 8-10 slot, we've spared the performers (and audience) the agony of the blistering Dallas heat.

Also, Dallas Black Dance theater will be moving from their Thursday performance. Instead we're bringing you two talented jugglers: Brad Johnson and David Slick. Brad is performing this Thursday, August 7th; David will perform August 14th, 21st and 28th.

More updates will come as we try and work around the inferno known as Texas summer.

Events Cooling Down

In case you haven’t noticed it’s hot outside, even by Texas standards. Because of the ridiculous heat we’re going to gear down a bit in August until things cool off. Thursdays will still feature performances from Dallas Black Dance Theatre, and Sunday we’ll still have our wonderful brunches and Urban Market kiosk. However, we’re clearing off the rest of the calendar. Not to worry, you can still come out and enjoy great Plaza dining any day of the week.

Jorge's Opening

Well, it has been revealed to me that Jorge's will not be opening July 31st after all. I'm snooping around trying to find out what the delay is because I'm certainly sad about it.

Will let you know as soon as I hear something.

Blue about Batman?

Couldn't get tickets to the new Batman movie? Join the crowd. The temptation to skip work today was overwhelming, but the wife threatened legal action if I saw the movie without her.

So what to do on a Friday night now? Well here's an idea: come down to the Plaza for some blues music to sooth your sad heart. Tonight the Paul Harrington Blues Duo is playing from 7-9pm. Besides Texas BBQ, there's isn't anything better than Texas blues music.

Enjoy some drinks at Dali, or treat yourself to a meal at Screen Door. You can always skip a day of work and see Batman next week.

Thank Heaven!

It's summer and we all have one thing on our mind right? Slurpees! Well some of us are still enamored with the simple things in life I guess.

What better way to chill on a July afternoon in Texas than by enjoying a nice, cold ice drink. And what better drink is there than the one from our childhood right? Every suburbanite remembers the joy or riding his or her bicycle up to the local 7-11 and getting a cherry (my favorite) or root beer Slurpee.

Well the folks at 7-11, headquartered in One Arts Plaza, celebrate each July 11th by giving away free Slurpees as part of their Customer Appreciation Day ( July 11th...7-11...get it...yeah, OK good). This year it's to celebrate 7-11's 81st birthday. Feeling old yet? Well feel like a kid again by treating yourself to a free Slurpee, but bring the kids along too.

7-11 FREE Slurpee

Jorge's is coming to One Arts Plaza July 31st!

If you're like me and have lived in Texas all your life, then you know good Tex Mex, and you also know you can never have too many Tex Mex restaurants. For all of you imports from the North (and I know there are a bunch of you out there) then you need to introduce your taste buds to the wonderful world of chili, cheese and salsa at Jorge's. If it's too hot for your non-fortified system, douse it with a tall margarita. You'll be fine.

Tip: Tex Mex tastes best on a Saturday afternoon with a nice, tall cerveza.

Visit Jorge's site.

Feeling patriotic?

Looking for something to do this 4th of July? Yeah, you can go to lake Lewisville like everyone else and be annoyed by the Seadoo crowd; or you can come down to One Arts Plaza and enjoy patriotic songs by Scott Jacob Loehr on keyboards.

You can also grab a bite to eat and a glass of wine at Dali or have a nice, relaxing dinner at Screen Door. Now doesn't that sound like more fun than burning up at the lake?

Music is from 7-9pm.

Friday Night Jazz

What's better than live jazz on a Friday night? Not much! Here's a chance to grab a nice meal, a glass of wine (or your favorite martini mix), and settle in for a nice evening down at the Dallas Arts District.

Join us for a live performance from the St. Paul Methodist Church jazz ensemble. Music starts at 6pm and runs until 8pm.

Dali Wine Bar/Screen Door

The Dali Wine Bar and Screen Door are both open for dining in the plaza.
Coming in July 2008: Tei An - Japanese/Soba , Jorge's - Tex/Mex and Fedora - Upscale Italian - Opening Fall 2008. These restaurants are also open to catering private events at One Arts Plaza.

The best thing is that all five restaurants are in one location! So you can enjoy live entertainment in the plaza and have your choice of wonderful dining. Five restaurants--five nights in the workweek...hmmm..., coincidence?
