"THE TABLE" opens tonight





Riding on the coattails of the successfull opening of The Commissary, Chef Tesar is officially opening THE TABLE tonight! It's a separate but attached 12-seat chef's tasting restaurant, similar to what he had at The Mansion on Turtle Creek. This private and cozy dining room has one large, beautiful thick wooden table that seats 12 with views of the Arts District and downtown Dallas. It's communal too which makes it even more fun because you can meet new, interesting people who are sharing a fantastic meal. Sounds pretty good to me. Multi-course menus start at $55. Call the Reservation Hotline at 469-600-4660 and Chef Tesar will personally answer your call to discuss the evening's menu and answer any questions. Tonight at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown Dallas from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm, The World Affairs Council is hosting the award-winning fiction, NY Times bestselling author, Richard North Patterson. The Commissary Now Open For Lunch

Drum roll please.... yes, the newest addition to One Arts Plaza's dining destination is now open. The Commissary is officially opening its doors for dinner tomorrow evening with lunch following next week. These chef-inspired burgers (made with organic, grass-fed beef) are priced at $5 - $8+. There's another unique twist to it as well: the bar is offering wine on tap! It's the only restaurant in the area offering this new trendy experience. TONIGHT - Hunter Sullivan's Big Band Tsunami Relief Concert



Tonight, our much beloved Dallas jazz musician, Hunter Sullivan and his magnificent 14-piece orchestra will perform a FREE concert on the plaza to raise funds for the recent vicitims of Japan. The concert will start at 6:30 pm and run until 9:30 pm. The plaza will be closed off for pedestrian-only use and valet will be rerouted. Donations to the Tsunami Relief Fund will be accepted throughout the evening and can also be made online on the Dallas Japanese Association's website. It's free, it's open to the public and it's for a great cause. Help us spread the word and come on out to enjoy the patios, fountains, restaurants and forecasted nice weather (finger's crossed/April 7th is alternate rain date).

Jean-Michel Costeau, son of the famous, French explorer Jacques Cousteau, will be in Dallas tonight for a lecture at the Winspear Opera House at 8 p.m. He's a tireless advocate in the world's ocean environment, producing films, meeting with policymakers and world leaders and designing artificial floating islands, schools and other projects. For more than four decades he has dedicated himself to communicate his love and concern for our water planet.

Tei-An Opens Rooftop for Super Bowl Week



For a limited time only, now through Monday, February 7th, Tei-An's private rooftop will be open for the general public to enjoy. The weather's getting chilly this week so they've already planned ahead and covered it with a tent + heaters. New Restaurant in the Arts District- THE COMMISSARY


Slated for an early April opening, the much anticipated arrival of a new restaruant will add a new flavor to the plaza...The Commissary. John Tesar, five-star chef formerly with The Mansion, will open a wine and burger bar & bistro. And get this...it's going to feature wine on tap! How fun. Apparently it's the new thing and we'll have it here at One Arts Plaza. The menu will feature a variety of tasty, grass-fed beef burgers in addition to small plates (think gourmet cheese cart & salumi - y.u.m.). He'll be open 7 days a week, serving lunch and dinner and late night meals, for those headed back from an Arts District performance or anyone out on the town. He'll also have take-out available for those on-the-go in cool, eco-friendly packages (love). He expects brunch and burger specials on the weekends too. Ohhh...and one last thing...he's going to have a communal chef's table where people can reserve a seat to enjoy a special chef's menu so keep an eye out for a future post on where to get all the 411. 6th Annual MLK Jr. Symposium Tonight at 7 pm - Winspear Opera House


Tonight, The Dallas Institute for Humanities and Culture will present its sixth annual symposium highlighting one of the most crucial but often neglected aspects of the American Civil Rights Movement: the law. In MLK, Jr.'s words, "A just law is a man-made code that squares with the moral law or the law of god. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law." The speakers tonight will include the high-profile senior analyst for CNN and staff writer for The New Yorker, Jeffrey Toobin, one of the country's most esteemeed experts on politics, media and the law. FREE First Mondays at Screen Door Begins Tonight


Tonight, Screen Door is launching it's "FIRST MONDAY'S"...a complimentary tasting of two courses on the first Monday of each month. Chef David McMillan will create two off-the-menu items available during dinner from 5-8 pm. So you can be the "first" to try new dishes for FREE. It gives the restaurant a chance to test new innovative items from the kitchen. A sample of some new dishes can include grilled squid with avocado, blood orange, candied bacon and mustard oil or smoked short rib with carrot potato hash and grilled onion vinaigrette - yum!
