THURSDAY'S ARE HEATING UP IN DALLAS

Are you looking for something fun and unique to do in Dallas tonight?  Look no further!!!

Tonight, and every Thursday night at the Dallas Museum of Arts is an ode to JAZZ and everything you love about JAZZ!  This Thursday, February 20th, you can enjoy Stockton Helbing, a Dallas-based drummer and composer Stockton Helbing leads his quartet through his original music. Stockton has released five albums to date, including his most recent Handprints. He has performed and recorded with a large range of artists including Maynard Ferguson, Erykah Badu, Steve Wiest, David Braid, Doc Severinsen, and many more.

Not only can you enjoy jazz but it is FREE admission!  The performance begins promptly at 6:00pm in the DMA, but you can head on over to One Arts Plaza beforehand to enjoy some lite bites and pre-event cocktails!

What a great article by D MAGAZINE!

Journalist Carol Shih of D Magazine published a great piece on One Arts very own Tei-An restaurant.  Not only can you have great ambiance and memorable food, but you can also have it at a price that won't break the bank.  Stop by Tei-An this week to enjoy a warm bowl of tonkotsu ramen, tonkatsu-pork cutlet, white seaweed salad, or zuke tamago- all under $10.

Celebrate National African American History Month With Dallas Arts District

Every February is National African American History Month and what a better way to celebrate than with the Dallas Black Dance Theateres  CULTURAL AWARENESS SERIES.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre resident choreographers Christopher Huggins and Chang Yong Sung will premiere new work utilizing history, times and cultures of Civil Rights icons Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Cesar Chavez.  This is a wonderful way for families to celebrate the heritage of Dallas' own community.  We hope to see you this weekend!

What's Happening in One Arts Plaza this Weekend?

Not only is One Arts Plaza excited to celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Crow Collection this Saturday, but there are a ton of other exciting things going on in Arts District that you might be interested in:

Family Concert at Winspear Opera House
This Saturday you and your family could enjoy the the Dallas Opera Orchestra conducted by Anthony Barrese.  There will be family activities in the lobby starting at 12:30pm followed by a parade of opera’s greatest hits by Mozart, Argento, Floyd, Offenbach, Gounod, and Delibes at 2pm.  Cost:  $5

Skyline 360 Tour with DCFA at Klyde Warren Park
This "standing" tour of Dallas' skyline will open your eyes into the wonderful world of Dallas' architectural heritage for the last 100 years.  The Dallas Center for Architecture will host a 20 minute tour where you'll learn about the buildings that define the Dallas skyline.  Cost: Free.  When:  Feb.1st at 2:30pm.

Meditation in the Galleries at Crow Collections
After an exciting weekend you may be in need of finding a source of relaxation.  This Sunday, February 2nd, at the Crow Collection you can learn meditation and relaxation techniques to help you center your mind, body, and spirit to prepare you for the following week.  Cost: Free.  When: 2:00pm.

Chinese New Year in Dallas' Art District!

Say Goodbye to the year of the snake and hello to the year of the horse this Saturday, February 1st, at the Crow Collection in the Dallas Arts District!  This Chinese New Year festival will surely surpass last years 10,000+ guests, and the performances every half hour will definitely amaze its audiences!


This event is FREE from 10am - 6pm.  Make it a point to grab a quick bite to eat at one of One Arts Plaza's many restaurants.  You can park at OAP and let the ART CART be your chariot to the Chinese New Year celebration at the Crow Collection!

Approximately 1200 guests will be in the plaza from 8am - 1pm.  

Saturday, March 15, 2014 - Accessories in the Nude, a fashion jewelry based competition will be held in the One Arts Plaza Lobby from 6pm - 10pm

Reliant Lights Your Holidays Rescheduled for THIS FRIDAY 12-13-13!

Now that Dallas' very own winter wonderland has subsided we are pleased to announce the rescheduled date for the Reliant Lights Your Holiday event to be held at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in One Arts Plaza.

This spectacular event will me magical to witness, but will also bring you and your family one step closer to the holiday spirit!


Reliant is lighting up a new holiday tradition at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, they’ll be illuminating the Center’s campus with 250,000 dazzling LED lights to celebrate the holiday season. The FREE festival includes the Southwest Airlines Holiday Concert and Fireworks Spectacular with live music performances. Take advantage of photos with Santa, holiday crafts for kids, animals from the Dallas Zoo, and a winter wonderland with real snow!

And before the show, you can feast on tasty treats, or warming holiday cocktails at One Arts Plazas many restaurants.  We look forward to spending this magical night with you and your family!

Friday, December 6 - Reliant Energy, in association with the AT&T PAC, is hosting “Reliant Lights Your Holiday”. This free, family friendly event will be held in front of the Winspear on Friday, December 6th from 5 - 9pm.  

During the holiday festivities you may also enjoy the Southwest Airlines Holiday Concert and Fireworks Spectacular featuring a live performance by country music star JACK INGRAM!  If that weren't enough, the celebration will also include photos with Santa, holiday crafts for kids, animals from the Dallas Zoo, and a winter wonderland with real snow!

This Week at Dallas' Own ONE ARTS DISTRICT...


DON'T MISS MIDNIGHT AT THE MUSEUMS IN THE DALLAS ARTS DISTRICT...

In case you are unaware, Dallas' Arts District is open late the third Friday of every month for the lovers of art.  If the art doesn't go home...then why should you?  The Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, and the Crow Collection of Asian Art host a late night experience at their facilities.  The Museum's are open until  from 6pm until midnight. This event is sure to offer hundreds of experiences for visitors of all ages with performances, concerts, readings, film screenings, tours, family programs, and more!

Crow Collection of Asian Art

Currently at the Crow exhibit you can witness the China.Porsche which has been on display since Saturday, October 05, 2013 and will continue until to be showcased until Sunday, May 25, 2014. Patron Magazine, based out of Dallas/Fort Worth, recently featured this exhibit in there pages that reflect upon contemporary art, culture, and design.

2013 Artist v Architect

Please join us on Thursday, November 14, 2013 for the Artist v Architect collaborative event experience hosted at One Arts Plaza. A public exhibition of all work created by local artists & architects will be on display beginning Monday, November 4 through Sunday, November 24, 2013.

Artist v Architect is a one of-a-kind exhibition and auction serving as a platform to celebrate the creativity of the modern world of art and architecture. Featuring local emerging and known artists and architects chosen by a panel of experts in the field of art and architecture, they creatively and collaboratively “duel” it out with their industry peers. All mediums of art, furniture and architectural models are featured and auctioned off via silent and live auction in order to benefit a charitable organization.


We are pleased to announce that the 2013 auction beneficiary is Family Compass. All auction proceeds raised on the night of November 14, 2013 will go directly to Family Compass.

Lucilo Pena Receives the TACA's Silver Cup Award for 2014

2014 Silver Cup Award recipients were announced recently by TACA to the One Arts Plaza's very own Lucilo Pena.  The TACA Silver Cup Award is presented to those who have made outstanding contributions to the arts in Dallas.

Peña, president and architect at Billingsley Development Company, is well versed in the area of stewardship and mentoring in the Dallas arts community.  He sits on numerous boards throughout the Arts District; he is a trustee for the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA), chair of the building committee for the DMA, serves on the program advisory committee for the Nasher Sculpture Center, member of the president's advisory council for the AT&T Performing Arts Center.  He also serves as a founding member of the development excellence committee for the North Texas Council of Governments, a director of the Dallas Architectural Forum, and is a member of Downtown 360 for the City of Dallas. 


Thank you Lucilo Pena for continuing to be a tireless supporter of the arts,culture, and communities of Dallas and North Texas!

This Week at One Arts Plaza


What an exciting week thus far at One Arts Plaza... and it's only TUESDAY!  Newsworthy announcements:

LUCY CROW BILLINGSLEY
Dallas Developer Lucy Crow Billingsley was presented with the 2013 H. Neil Mallon Award for her individual efforts in establishing a stronger Dallas-Fort Worth international reputation.  The Mallon Award is presented by the World Affairs Council of Dallas-Fort Worth and given to a person who embodies an excellence in promoting the international focus of North Texas as an international gateway for business, industry and diplomatic relations.

Mrs. Billingsley is not only an accomplished commercial real estate powerhouse in the Arts District and North Texas, but is also the founder and director of Chiapas International, a microfinance nonprofit founded in 2003.  Since the organizations inception it has provided more than $5 million in seed money to 242,000 women entrepreneurs around the globe.

GEORGE KAIHO
Recently, Dallas' own Tei An, a Soba House and authentic Japanese restaurant located in One Arts Plaza, has announced George Kaiho as their new Bar Manager and house Mixologist.  George has a keen pallet as it relates to spirits and pairing in the culinary world and lends his creativity to the overall Tei An experience.  To get an idea of his creativity check out his blog where you can find recipes that are sure to keep you wanting more!

AURORA 2013 WAS A HUGE SUCCESS AT DALLAS' ONE ARTS PLAZA!

Last Friday was such a great turnout at One Art’s Plaza!  All of the exhibits were inspiring and the atmosphere was full of energy.  Not only was the event a success but we also had some local area talent posting their experiences and images to the One Art’s Plaza Instagram for our #Aurora2013 @OneArtsPlaza image contest.  We are pleased to announce our winners:

Dallas Arts Districts Fall Block Party and Aurora Lights Exhibit This Friday!

FALL BLOCK PARTY:  This Friday, October 18th, is THE Fall Block Party you will not want to miss nestled in the heart of the Dallas Arts District!  This party not only combines Late Night at the Dallas Museum of Art, ‘til Midnight at the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the Crow Collection After Dark festivities but offers free general admission, music, movies, and live entertainment! 

 
AURORA LIGHT EXHIBIT:   The Dallas Morning News is hosting its annual Aurora exhibit, Light of Convergence 2013 in the Dallas Arts District.  The entire 68-acre footprint will showcase various artists using the natural surroundings provided by the District’s landscape in order to display their work.  One Arts Plaza is proud to be one of the many highlighted locations for this year’s exhibit, which includes the Dallas Museum of Art, the Winspear Opera House, the Wyly Theater, the Meyerson Symphony Center, Klyde Warren Park and more.  Patrons should expect a multi-sensory and participatory experience from dozen of exhibits that are sure to be unexpected and magical to witness!  This is an event you cannot miss.

Do not miss the 3D Printed Sculpture SculptCAD Rapid Artist in the One Arts Plaza Lobby.
