WE ARE ALL HOMELESS Artist Reception was a HUGE success

On Tuesday evening, One Arts Plaza hosted an artist reception for Willie Baronet, the visionary behind the WE ARE ALL HOMELESS project. His project, on display in the One Arts Plaza lobby, consists of hundreds of homeless signs, which he has bought and collected while traveling across the United States. Its purpose is to challenge beliefs on what it means to be homeless. Is home a physical place of comfort and safety? Or is it a place of emotional security and identity?

The reception was met with positive response. Viewers enjoyed bites from One Arts Plaza’s restaurant Proof + Pantry and champagne from Contadi Castaldi Franciacorta Brut NV. In addition to hearing from Baronet, Teresa Hiser and Dr. David Woody with The Bridge and Sherri Ansley with the Housing Crisis Center shared information about their organizations and the work they do with the homeless community.  Guests also left messages on the interactive display describing what home means to them.

If you missed out on the reception, stop by the One Arts Plaza to see Baronet’s WE ARE ALL HOMELESS installation now on display until October 4, 2015. You can also join us on next Wednesday, September 23 from 6pm – 8pm for a special Artist Talk.

Viewers observe the installation while enjoying snacks provided by Proof + Pantry.

Artist Willie Baronet discusses his work process.

New Exhibit: WE ARE ALL HOMELESS

One Arts Plaza is proud to present the thought-provoking exhibit created by Dallas’ Willie Baronet, “WE ARE ALL HOMELESS”. Now on display in our commercial lobby, Baronet’s project features homeless signs that he has been buying and collecting since 1993. The purpose of this project is to not only bring awareness to the issue of homelessness, but to change the preconceived ideas many people have about the homeless and their situations. His exhibition challenges viewers to think about what it means to be homeless. Is home a physical place such as a house? Or is it a state of being, a sense of safety, or identity?

Stop by our lobby to see his work and challenge the preconceived notions that surround homelessness. Please click here to learn more about Baronet’s project. His exhibition will be on display now through October 4.

Additionally, we are proud to support the Housing Crisis Center and The Bridge. Check out these non-profits and please consider spreading the word, donating or supporting their efforts by volunteering your talents an time. Visit the Housing Crisis Center and the Bridge to learn more.

Don't miss the "WE ARE ALL HOMELESS" Opening reception Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 6-8pm.

JM Gallery’s successful artist opening:

Very exciting things are happening at JM Gallery, located right here in One Arts Plaza! Last Saturday the gallery hosted a very successful artist opening and reception for Sasha Baskin, Melanie Millar, and Fari Rahimi. These three female, Texas artists were able to meet with other artists, designers, and art enthusiasts to explain their work and creative processes.

We love these women’s ability to create such visually powerful pieces with the simplest mediums. Come see Baskin’s beautifully woven portraits and Millar’s brilliant, textile-seeming paintings. And don’t forget Rahimi’s sculptures, which reflect female empowerment.

Stop in JM Gallery to see what you’ve been missing out on! Please note the gallery’s new hours: Wednesday – Thursday from 12-6pm, Friday – Saturday 12-9pm, and Sunday from 12-6pm.

(Pictured: Artists Shasha Baskin and Fari Rahimi in front of their work)

You’re invited to JM Gallery’s newest artist opening!

Come welcome female artists Sasha Baskin, Melanie Millar, and Fari Rahimi to JM Gallery! Join us at the gallery this Saturday, August 1, from 5-8pm for a chance to be some of the first to see this new exhibition.

See how these three remarkable artists transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. Sasha Baskin is a weaver who uses texture and shadow to construct elaborate portraits.  As she describes it, she looks at the faces slowly, takes them apart, and puts them back together, revealing the beauties and stories she found in them. Melanie Millar uses her paintings to explore the nature or ornamentation and the human impulse to embellish. Her work is inspired by patterns, florals, and other fabric designs. Fari Rahimi creates her sculptures by drawing heavily on her upbringing in Iran. She uses her work to create “symbolic portraits of the interior female self”.

We are excited to welcome these artists to JM Gallery! Join us this Saturday to experience their beautiful work.

Don't forget to protect your skin this summer...

We love almost everything about summer, but sometimes the heat, humidity, and chlorine can produce negative results for our skin. Luckily Renée Rouleau, whose spa is located right here at One Arts Plaza, was able to give us a few pointers to beat the summer heat. Here are just a few from her summer skin care blog.
  1.  Wear sunscreen everyday, even if you spend most of you time inside.
  2. Avoid hair products containing panthenol to prevent breakouts.
  3.  Don’t let your usual skin care routine take a summer vacation!
Visit www.reneerouleau.com for more tips. If you’re interested in receiving the same spa and skin treatments that are beloved by bloggers, fashion editors, and celebrities contact Reneée Rouleau at One Arts Plaza. (Available by appointment only. Call (214) 735-4364 or visit www.reneerouleau.com)
